If you've never been to pelvic floor therapy, a little nervousness is completely normal. Knowing what to expect takes most of that worry away. Here's how a first visit actually goes — and what you're always in control of.
It starts with a conversation
Your first appointment begins with an unhurried talk about your history, your symptoms, and what you want to get back to. Nothing happens before you understand it and agree to it. This is your time to ask questions and set the pace.
A thorough, respectful evaluation
From there we complete an assessment that may include posture, breathing, movement, and strength. An internal pelvic floor exam can be part of pelvic therapy, but it is never required and never a surprise — we explain it first, you decide, and there are always alternatives. You stay clothed and comfortable for much of the visit.
- Everything is explained before it happens
- An internal exam is optional — you choose
- You can pause or stop at any point
- You're welcome to bring a support person
You leave with a plan
By the end of the visit you'll have a clear, personalized plan — usually a mix of hands-on care and simple strategies to practice at home. Most people leave their first appointment feeling relieved, informed, and hopeful about getting back to normal.
